First off, congratulations!

1) Sorry, not too sure about that. I guess only the university itself can give you an answer to your question.
2) I did Democracy and Politics, Philosophy and Economics for my 2 IDF subjects. I did them both in semester 1. Many people find Democracy to be an uneventful subject and for PPE(Politics, Philosophy and Economics), most find the many concepts to be confusing, especially the economical ones. I would recommend PPE if you are interested in philosophical economists like Amartya Sen and Nozick, famous political works by Mill on liberty as such. Essentially, the course is all about political and philosophical considerations on state interventions and redistribution, on the grounds of the economy of course. For Understanding Asia, I have heard that it is quite a fun subject, but there is a lot of homework to do. Apparently, you have to constantly update your blog or something online. But if you are genuinely interested with it, then don't let the workload put you off. Sorry, I am not too sure about Self and Other.
3) I think you might be slightly disadvantaged. But I think for level 1 breadth subjects, the lecturers/tutors will most likely carry you guys, that's what i find, and most of them are quite approachable when you need extra help.
4) Academic Advice Day in my opinion, isn't that great unless you are desperate for free goodies and stuff. Its good f you want to meet new people and as such, but it kinda gets awkward because from my experience, the organisers didn't plan the events/activities quite well and it gets kinda weird...lol
Good Luck
Sorry, I completely destroyed the numbering of your questions :/
