I'm nearly finished Unit 4, aiming to finish everything by this friday then I'll start doing practice exams, write summaries and all that jazz. But studying for the end of years start doesn't start when you finish unit 3 or when you finish unit 4. It starts on the very first day of the school year or the first day of orientation week last year, well thats my philosophy.
xD

I agree, you don't really have to *start* studying for end of years, even by preparing for SACs you're also preparing for end of years. After you do a SAC, just keep revising what you know so then you don't forget and have to relearn it all in September or whatever.

That said, try to finalise all of your notes before the term 3 break (not holiday) if that's possible. From the term 3 break onwards it's a good idea to start practice exams, identify problem areas, etc.

Can I just say one thing regarding the usage of practice exams.

This is the WRONG way to use practice exams

Monday - do 1 prac exam, got 80/90 , damn
Tuesday- do 2 more prac exams got 82/90 and 78/90, hey i did better on one
Weds- do 1 more prac exam 86/90 , YAY I MUST BE GETTING BETTER!
Thurs- do 1 more prac exam 77/90, OH WTF WENT WRONG HERE!!!

here is my point. flying through practice exams is essentially one of the most inefficient ways of improving your udnerstanding of the course. It is what you do when LOOKING OVER YOUR PRACTICE EXAMS which makes you better. Every time I did a practice exam, i looked at where I lost marks and where i had the answers done really well. I studied the areas that I lost makrs on, then tried another exam, if I did better on those areas I fucked up last time then I'll fix up the areas I now fucked up on this exam.

I know some people who think just because they have done 20 practice exams they are super prepared, but unless they/you revise the areas you are mucking up, you won't be really impriving your chances of scoring well on the end of year exams by much at all.

You always hear of that.

Quote "I did 15 exams, and my friend only did 5, and he still beat me"/

Thanks for the advice... I heard theres only 40 days of school left... its getting to the big time

I never did that. I did around 5-10 past papers per subject, and didn't need to revise them at a later date -- learnt what I did wrong while going through solutions.

I don't mean revising them daily, I just mean going through the solutions and looking where you go wrong, but actually trying yo understand why you didnt get the marks allocated. Instead of just ticking and crossing.

Studying the areas that you fucked up on is essential though when you don't actually know that area of the course well. Most of the time just by looking at the solutions for where you went wrong, you can understand the course better

Your school should provide them (if your school is half decent lol)

For a lot of subjects your teachers/school may hold practice exams at school (usually one or two) that are done in class or at school somewhere. The rest you can do at home...

Remember for legal, VN will be releasing an exam... which reminds meeee....

For the Psychology mid-year, I completed most at home, and some in my spares. I printed a couple of VCAAs, but got many, many practise exams from my teacher (VCAA, STAV, Neap)

Mmm... yes. What I think is that if you need to do more past papers than 15, you aren't using them effectively. The benefit of past papers should diminish quickly -- that is, you should be extracting most of the benefit from your first few past papers.

I think my approach is insignificant, but I tend to go through the Checkpoints in mathematics, do all of the questions, and leave them. Wrong approach, I know :P I am so stressed about maths, but at least the Checkpoints are past exam questions :). (Don't follow this method of study... Very inefficient)
