Lol, this is a quote from another forum which comes to mind

"While you may laud your success over me now, i feel that you're victories will only be temporary and that this year will end in endless defeat for you. My year was interrupted by a three month sojourn to my chateau in Monaco as well as a few months skiing in the Romanian alps. It's little wonder that my Chinese was only scaled to 53.7, anyway 162.9 from three is a good enough start to get me into TAFE anyway."
Heh, that was from leachy on BoS, right? He and I and Pete Shearman used to troll those forums so hard back in yr12.

did you know shearman's dad? he was the one the abc interviewed whenever something noteworthy happened in Russia. would be cool to have someone like that as a parent, kinda like having a chef for a parent who cooks for you [my parents are both physicists but I'm not interested in physics, meh]

Year 11:

MM CAS - Lololol, I'm a genius, I don't need to study at all and I'll get a 50 /arrogance. Bludge bludge.

End result: 44. Damn.

Chinese - Didn't care, didn't study.

End result - 37. Meh

Year 12 - Midyears:

Chem - Learnt from year 11. Did like 30 trial exams plus mandatory ones. Aced the midyear.

Physics - Not as many trial exams, maybe 10. Studied hard leading up to exams. 86/90. Damn you structures.
Rawr.

Fine, fine, subjects scores whatever.

2007
Mathematical Methods (CAS): 44
Chinese SL: 37

2008
English Language: 43
Specialist Mathematics: 50
Chemistry: 45
Japanese Second Language: 40

WHAT THE HELL?! YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!!!

I've only been doing year 12 for 4-5 weeks now and I'm already stressing like a bitch. How the hell are you guys able to not study. My English SAC is coming up and I've been doing so much work its not funny. Already 2 essays and I've pretty much just finished reading my text. There's no way what most have you said is true.

I'm planning (and although I have an infamous track record of not following through) on doing a minimum of 5 exams for spec, physics and methods (very much thanks to daniel.) and like 150 essays for english.

By the way, I am aware that this post is like 6 months old.

I guess people who work hard in middle school have a great advantage over those who only just start working hard in high school. Over the middle school years they accumulate 'smartness' and when VCE comes they can afford to not study and still get great marks, just from their 'accumulated smartness'. I wish my teachers reminded me more about that... but then, back in year 7-8 VCE seemed a million miles away.

I disagree with this 100%
teachers were constantly telling us in the early years that if we wanted to do well in VCE we had to study in year 7 and 8
and I didn't
and I'm glad I didn't because I doubt it would have made any difference
I'm doing fine

i disagree with that 50%. I studied my but off in years 7,8 and half of 9 (not sure why though, i guess to win the end of year academic of the year awards lol won it 4 years in a row 8) and it all payed off. Firstly i was asked to get moved up which i accepted to take up after 3 denials, it put many awards in my house, it allowed me to accumulate good work ethic and gives me a reason to do well in VCE; i just think back at all the hard work i put in and what a waste that would be if i came out of high school with a shattering score.

P.S i am currently listening to gotta be somebody - nickleback so it adds to the whole emotional factor... sad...cough*

I did fuck all in years 7 and 8, (especially year 8) and then in year 9 won a LOT of academic awards and then a pretty good haul in year 10.  Although i will admit that year 9 maths and year 11 methods would've been easier if I didn't bludge through year 8 maths.  Like in year 9 I basically had to catch up on a year that I'd missed and when I started doing year 11 methods I was like "oh yeah I can just do nothing and ace this" and it took me a while to work out that that wasnt exactly true:P

To be honest, I did pretty little work in years 7-11 if with the exception of year 10 and 11 exams. I don't think it hampered me, because I was just so much more motivated in year 12 and did so much more work.
