Hi everybody! Currently I have Heinemann Biology 1, though I am finding studying it for Unit 2 a bit difficult. It is getting tedious,  and this could affect my ENTER. I want to get Nature of Biology Book 1. Should I get it? It looks more interesting. I know three people have it in my class as well as the Heinemann, so if I don't get it I will be severely disadvantaged. What does everybody think?

If you're only doing Unit 1 & 2 then don't worry about it. Bugger all from Unit 2 has bearing on Unit 3 & 4, and that's what counts for your study score. Unit 1 is much more valuable to Unit 3, so try to keep some of that knowledge.

the only impact a unit 1/2 sequence can have on your sequence is how good a foundation you build up for it. the actual performance doesn't really matter at all, even though it will be an indication towards how well you will do in unit 3/4.
the difference between a C and an A+ means little in year 11, so long as you can grasp the contents it'll be good enough.

but if you really want it, ask your teacher if you can have an electronic copy. teachers usually have a copy of all the textbooks available, and they all come with CDs(pdf) these days.

Personally I wouldn't bother. Like Mao said, either get the electronic version, or just don't bother - its not worth the money. Biology is a subject where quite a majority don't even do units 1 and 2, so its quite illogical to say you'll be 'severely disadvantaged' for learning unit 1 and 2 to a lesser extent. I went straight to units 3 and 4 last year and its not really that hard to learn first time round, so you should be fine.

Definitely, you should get that textbook. If it is affecting your learning and three people really have it than you must. And according to your previous posts you are only doing one VCE subject, getting one and studying two  shouldn't be a problem if you have the money. You are still in year 10, so it won't affect your other subjects if you have two. You don't want to take any chances, even if it is for unit 1/2. Getting the textbook will allow you to learn how to study more efficiently and you'll get more used to the thinking processes involved. This will also probably help you to study for your other subjects. You also must top your class, so once you get it make sure actually read it. But before you do that, have a look at its website first, check its sample pages and make sure you are making the right choice.
