hey eriny, do you know whether
a) it's hard to get permission to overload in sem 1 in phb, and
b) whether it's hard to juggle an extra subject in sem 1 whilst getting used to everything? i can't fit everything in and my spare subj gap is in sem 2...
also, does anyone know how mathsy first year eco (ie micro and macro) is? i really really want to do it, but only did up to year 11 maths in vce. i just want to do the basics in eco though, i know for later years you would need maths skills. i'm not terrible or brilliant at maths, pretty average.
also x2, do anu actually send you a package with forms for enrolment, or is it just the online thing? because the online thing didn't let me put in my correct birthdate. plus there seem to be some enrolment forms that we need to fill out that are missing...
finally, whilst the colleges give you a basic list of what to bring, any tips for other things that would be good to bring?
going to b&g with all my schoolyard chums, woo. they stuffed early offers for nus kids though. stupid admin.
You can get permission to overload in the first semester, but you need to justify why you want to do it to the head of the Arts and Social Sciences. That is, you need a good reason. It's much easier in the second semester.
Is the workload manageable? It depends. I know someone in phb who did 6 subjects last semester and did it relatively easily, I don't think I'd be able to cope with the workload of more than 5 subjects a semester though. I think you should try out doing 4 subjects in semester one and see how it goes. It was my plan to overload to begin with, but after semester one I thought it was a bad idea. I know it's annoying if there are particular subjects that you want to do, but as a phb student you can get into later year Arts subjects relatively easily without any prerequisites (you just need to email the lecturer for permission).
I don't think micro one is particularly mathsy, but I've never taken it. I think there's some formulas, but that's about it. I think the further you go in econ, the more maths you have to do.
At ANU, you do all of your first year enrollment in person. When you get your pack it should explain everything there. I don't think the online form matters that much. If it has the wrong birth date it should be easy to fix it.
