I've been mucking around with the timetable builder and BIOL1003 clashes with CLAS1001 for 1 hour long lecture.  >:(

Can I still do both subjects and maybe alternate which lecture I go to?
Is it easy to catch up on missed lectures?

It's usually pretty easy to catch up on lectures that you miss. Most classes have the lectures recorded, which you can download and listen to later on.

If it's a Thursday morning lecture in question then you'll want to go to Trad Grammar as there's a test on then every week!

Yeah, a big lecture like BIOL1003 will be recorded. I had a clash last semester. Just turn up to whichever one you think has a lecturer with the least amount of technological reliability and download the other lecture. It isn't really ideal, but you won't miss out on anything.

And guys, I know the wait is painful (trust me, I was in the same position last year after the first round of accommodation offers were given out), but ANU will guarantee you a place to live this year. Don't worry too much about it until you actually get your offer (which you will get!).

I can't decide what to do for my arts part of the course - I'd love to do 2 languages, but I'd also really like to do political science or even history or english or something. Or economics but you can't do that through the arts fac at anu can you? I want to try and get myself a mon or fri without classes haha, will have to do some super timetabling. I looked at the timetable builder and half the classes dont seem to have the times put in yet gar

Not many classes in the arts faculty actually operate on Fridays, so you might be lucky there. I think you can do econs in Arts, but I'm not 100% sure (the only people I know who did are in phb). ANU is meant to have a really good poli sci department, but most people I know thought that POLS1002 was really boring (I personally didn't mind it, it's more or less an intro into Australian politics). First year languages seem to be fairly good by how things sound too. I don't know, I guess it depends on what you intend to do after uni.

For large classes, there could be up to 20 tutorial times. You only have to sign up for one of them - so you would probably have one tutorial a week for each subject. A tutorial is where you discuss the content covered in lectures, do practice questions, ask for help on assignments, and so on. You often have to go to tutorials in order to pass the course (not in maths though, heh).
Lectures are where the actual course content is taught. You're not really required to go to lectures, but it definitely helps if you want to actually know what's going on in a course. Some really massive classes might have more than one lecture stream, so that you can sign up for different sets of lectures (the first few years of law are like this, I think).

omg i just REALISED I HAVE BRACES!

what does this mean? It means that i may not be able to go to interstate unis! why you ask? well i need monthly check ups until the end of my 1st yr of uni to which by thenm my braces weill be taken off.

So what is my question? well to the ANU students here, do you reken it'll be a hassle going back and forth to Melbourne once a month to have that routine checkup? What would the avg cost be for flight tickets to melb? would this affect my work?

Why can't you go to a dentist in Canberra? Canberra has dentists.

I just got my braces off. My orthodontist is pretty flexible with appointments. I'm meant to go back at the end of April but they agreed that waiting till July would be fine.

Last yr I flew up to Canberra and back for Open Day. The flight only takes an hour, I arrived at 9.30am left at 5.30pm. So in terms of time commitment I'd say it's easily possible to fly back for check ups. It cost me $150 there and back but now Tiger Airways flies to Canberra so you could probably fly back cheaper.

Yep Tiger airways has SOME flights from $29 one way to Canberra. I think only from March onwards though.

No. The wait is more nervewracking than it was waiting for my ENTER, haha.

What were your preferences? I'm so glad I got my accom pref straight away, it was indeed the most stressful part. I wasn't going to go unless I got one of my prefs, so thank god. Wouldn't have been able to afford UniLodge.
