once you're offered a place for accommodation, whats the timeframe within which we have to accept?

5 days :)
For Domestic Students

Once UAC offers have been released, those offered a place at ANU will receive confirmation of their accommodation offer and information on how to accept it.

Domestic students must accept their offer of accommodation within 5 workings days otherwise the offer will lapse.

The guarantee will only apply to students receiving main round offers on the 21st of January 2009 and new students that have deferred studies from a previous semester.

UAC offers are released on the 21st of January 2009

a couple more questions..

once you're offered a place for accommodation, whats the timeframe within which we have to accept?

and with regards to any law course, i heard its possible you can get in even if you don't get 95. what's the lowest ENTER that they go down to and how do i go about getting in *if* i don't get 95?

thanks :]
no idea for the latter. i've heard stories of people getting 93-94 and calling up the department and telling them how much they want to get in etc etc and getting in.

lol, I heard about someone who fell short for Law@Melbourne and really wanted it, he was recommended "maybe a generous donation to the Law faculty"

I know someone who got into Law after getting a score just under the cut-off and then taking a year off to work in a law firm and reapplying. That's the only instance I've heard of outside the Interwebs.

Hello,

At this present time I'm considering two different degrees, either one in Commerce or Finance and Melbourne and ANU are on my list. My understanding is that ANU is higher ranked than Melbourne, hence it's more appealing. Alongside that the ENTER scores are quite a lot lower... 75 as opposed to 95 for Commerce - is this primarily due to demand? I assume since it's in Canberra there's a lot less demand.

I'm kind of at a point where I'm not sure where to go and what the advantages/disadvantages are for both of these universities. I essentially want to go to the better of the two, accommodation isn't really an issue.

Can anyone really comment on whether or not it's worth going to ANU in this scenario, or in general - Melbourne VS ANU for these two specific courses.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, are there apartments close to the university? Or is boarding down there a necessity.

No idea what the advantages/disadvantages of the two universities are in terms of Commerce and Finance degrees. You don't have to get 25 in methods to get into Commerce at ANU, maybe. The low ENTER scores are precisely due to the fact that demand isn't great because few people want to move to Canberra, for some strange reason.

General advantages about ANU? It's a great uni, incredible atmosphere, you meet people from all over Australia and the world. But bear in mind that ANU's high ranking is heavily due to the fact that it's a great research university - as far as undergraduate degrees go, ANU is definitely in the top few unis in Australia, but it isn't incredibly better than say UMelb or USyd or something. Don't be fooled by ANU's ranking: it is a great university, but it's not worth going to over UMelb purely on the basis of its high ranking. I'm sure a Commerce degree at UMelb is worth just as much as one from ANU. That being said, I love ANU and couldn't imagine studying at another Australian university - I wouldn't learn nearly as much, have such a great time, and be as highly qualified when I left at other universities.

As for accommodation, nearly all interstate students stay at a college on campus (at least in their first year - many move out in 2nd/3rd/4th year). Otherwise accommodation can be extremely hard to come by (Canberra has a general accommodation shortage) and is quite expensive for inner city places. But college is awesome, so it's all fine...

I would echo humph. It's a great uni, and the ranking is awesome to know, but the difference it would make to you career-wise is negligible. Although I guess there's lots of networking potential at a residential hall or college.

Thanks humph.

ANU really does look very appealing, the moving to another state is not that much of an issue - plus it'll only be for 3 years.
I guess it would be a good experience too, meet quite a few people from all of Australia.

UMelb has really gone downhill as I've been reading, ever since the introduction of the Model quite a lot of their high-end staff are leaving, and alongside that their Commerce degree is quite hefty on the ENTER (95), that's not say I'm not capable of that but it's always good to know that there's another uni of higher reputation/equal quality for a commerce degree at 75.

What surprises me most though is really the popularity of ANU, I hardly hear about people talking about it or anything, all I hear is Melbourne and Monash.
I guess because of the whole Canberra thing.

I heard ANU academics on the news [when i used to watch the news] way more than academics from any other university, that was how i first came to know about ANU. Then i saw it held 1st place among Aus unis on the Times Higher Education Supplement, which made me somewhat curious, but Humph and Eriny are the first people I've "known" to go there.

Lol, this was one of the FAQs on the Burgmann website

"If I sign up to become a resident at Burgmann College, do I receive a free set of steak knives?
No, we are sorry, we are unable to offer these products at this time."

hey guys i was just wandering if you had any info about the provisional medical program that anu is running, i achieved 98.45 and a resonable umat so i was wandering since anu asks for >98 i might consider applying, what sounds really interesting is the fact that they state you can do any bachelors degree or combination before going into medicine (also doing well in the gamsat)

so if u guys know anything bout cutoffs or other info it would be helpful, thank you
