DIdnt go to open days. Is this really bad?

I was sick during some the melbourne and monash open days and plus had too much homework so i didnt go.
I wanna do engineering or something, and i got the brochures anyway....
But My course counsellor told me that I SHUD have really gone. DId i really miss out?

I guess you missed out on the whole atmosphere and environment of the University. I mean, if you got into your desired course, and it turns out that you really dislike the University, but never knew because you didn't attend the open day, then you would suffer the consequences.

I guess that would be one major disadvantage of not attending the Open Days.

    You can go to a uni during the [school] holidays if you want to sample the atmosphere
       and also talk to the relevant people if you find out beforehand when they're free/ have drop-in sessions

Hmm...ok seriously...
It depends on how much you already know about the unis and the courses.
You might want to know what the campus looks like, what the environment is like etc...but if you already know, or if it doesn't bother you...then you didn't really miss out.
Also, is there anything that you dont understand about a certain course, did you need particular questions to be answered?
If there are some things which you dont fully understand and the brochures do not help you...then asking someone in person at open day may have helped.
But overall...i dont think you missed out on all that much...except for the freebies

nah i am no interested in the atmosphere that much, just like extra info on the course like talking to ppl so i can get a good job.

i went to melbourne uni. and i found out that it wasnt a place that suited me. so im glad i went. instead..... yes...i know im gonna cop shit... BUT... i went to deakin open day.. AND LOVED IT. so now thats my top pref

I never went to the ANU Open Day

I went to a bunch of other Open Days. Generally, all Open Days are similar. Most uni's are able to sell themselves pretty well so it may be a better idea to come back later to see the uni in real operation (maybe even turn up to lectures you're interested in).

Open days are overrated, unless you were really unsure on something to do with the course/courses you were interested in and want that cleared up, or if you were a sucker for freebies like roxxii is .
