Stupid mistake on the monounsaturated question.

But no-one down my end is complaining. I'll say I did comparatively well and leave it at that.

Angry? :x

45 is possible. You've dropped 9 marks.
Based on this Unit 4 exam, which wasn't overly difficult, but tricky, the standard will remain unchanged, I suspect, considering it didn't change for Unit 3. People will fall for the tricks, and the last multi-choice was pretty craphouse.

Cd is oxidised

That was it I think... The one where you had to write an explanation?
I wrote "Because it's cool like that. It's a totally awesome element" as the explanation
They don't take marks off for stupid answers, do they? My thoughts are usually "If I have no clue how to answer this question, put a random answer" :D

It was the conversion of energy.

Even on a bad day I couldn't devise such a shithouse worded question.

It was about which contributed the most energy to generate a specific amount of electricity. (this is better worded than the VCAA one)

Mechanical, Thermal, or Chemical.

I'm told the answer is Chemical contributes the most (then heat is lost), then thermal to drive the turbine (more heat lost), then mechanical (more heat loss).

Hence, the answer from least to most is Mechanical, Thermal, Chemical in terms of energy contribution to a specific amount of electricity generated.

Hence, answer is C.

During the production of electricity in a coal-fired power station, energy is present in the following forms.
I. mechanical energy of turbine.
II. chemical energy of coal and oxygen.
III. thermal energy of steam.

The amount of energy in each of these forms that take part in the generation of a fixed quantity of electricity is, from lowest to highest
A. III, I, II
B. I, II, III
C. I, III, II
D. II, III, I

For that question:

pH rises. Thus, H+ ion conc. decreases. Thus, H+ --> H2 (g).
Thus, H+ is reduced. Thus, Cd(s) is the reductant.

Cd is oxidised is strictly speaking incorrect unless you follow that working (or so I'm told).

I put A........

Because thermal energy gave out the lowest energy or something??
