In the exam, do you use Pen or Pencil?

just wondering which of the two(pen or pencil) is better to use/you use?

there's basically no point for me to use pen because the writing still looks messy (becos I rush), although pencil smudges but an upside is that you can erase and make it look neat etc.

edit: for science ones only, lol

In short: Pen (any written tasks, ie. English, ITA, Biology - majority of the subjects)
Might use pacer for say, methods, though.
Depends on the subject, but for English, defiantly pen.

Yeh, definitely pencil for maths and some sciences...I lost about 3 marks or so on bio end year last year because I did a diagram question in pen and stuffed it up 3 times, despite eventually getting the right answer. So I pretty much ended up with a ball of scribble on top of the diagram, and a correct answer lying around somewhere in there.

don't you have to use pen in English?

I've used pen in every exam except music (i.e. writing music notation etc.) because pen is a helluva lot easier to read than pencil, especially if your exam is no. 140 out of the 150 exams an examiner has to mark and it's 2am when they're marking it, and if they can't read it they won't give you marks

I use pencil so I can rub out my mistakes (every 3rd question) and fix them.

so in the exam, do you have to be as neat as possible, with no scribbles etc even though you have the right answer, the examiners will still not give the marks? O__o

i remember crossing out huge chunks of writing because the wording was not right. and yes, it looked quite messy and annoying.

If they can see and read you working out, and it's correct, you'll get the marks.

However, if theres scribbles ALL over the page and messy writing on the side trailing over to the page, then you can imagine an examiner marking his nth paper for the night being pretty frustrated.

Still, I've heard that examiners generally want to give marks when they can, and keeping the page reasonably neat is not overly difficult if you use pencil.

Yeh, if its legible, they'll give you the marks. Problem with mine was the scribbles were directly on top of the diagram I was meant to annotate. So I had balls of scribbles where the answer was meant to go, and arrows leading in =T Beats me why I didn't just redraw it elsewhere but meh.

Generally I would use pen, although I used a pacer for accounting mid-year - had nightmares about my work rubbing off because of being dropped/shaken :(
