Question - Exam Texts (Films/novels)

Hey guys,

I've been reading through the 2008 sample exam for English and noticed that in Section A it states 'If you write on a film text in Section A, you must not write on a film text in Section B'.
If I write on a film text in Section A and write on a novel text in Section B, would I be allowed to focus the majority of my essay (say 2/3 of my essay) on the novel text in Section B, but draw on (say 1/3 of my essay) a film text?
I asked my English teacher and they said that this is okay, but I just wanted to double check, after reading that exam I'm sorta confused :S

Thanks!

My take on this:
I wouldn't even include film in section B (if I were to do film in section A). Stay on the safe side, and don't include it at all, as they clearly state that you "must not write on a film text in Section B".

Also, keep in mind that you need to include social parallels you have studied and gathered throughout the year, more so compared to the novel.

Mmm...while I don't have any evidence with me, I'm pretty sure we've gone through this somewhere and established that they're referring to just the KEY TEXT not being a film if you use one in section A. The key text is the one which you have to nominate and is from the actual list of texts to be studied. I'm pretty sure a brief reference of a film as supplementary material would be fine however.

The lecturer at VATE (an examiner) said you can briefly mention it, but it should not be the main focus.

Well any supplementary material shouldn't be the focus of it anyway even if it isn't a film. The key text MUST be.
