All of them look so awesome...

which ones would help with medicine / gamsat most?

Med - defence and disease, pathology, physiology, human structure and function, immunology
GAMSAT - Not entirely sure, maybe biochem subjects.

What's actually tested on GAMSAT? o_O I thought it was just similar to UMAT, but if biochem helps with it, then is it more specific?
MBBS (hons) - Monash University

YR11 '07: Biology 49
YR12 '08: Chemistry 47; Spesh 41; Methods 49; Business Management 50; English 43

ENTER: 99.70

It tests knowledge related to 1st year university biology, 1st year university chemistry and vce level physics

and you have to write an essay... so english/bio/chem/physics skills :D

no its not like umat, because to do well in GAMSAT you actually have to study/prepare (which I suppose you can do to an extent with UMAT)

Really? Link?
Deakin and Monash postgrad you can get into medicine with any course at all, so long as you attain good marks and are able to do well on the GAMSAT.

Yeh, melbourne expect your undergraduate degree to cover specific aspects such as biochem, as always, this is very similar to american colleges

slide 23

I think the GAMSAT knowledge level is more comparable to high school bio, chem and physics than 1st year university.

Selection

Selection into the Doctor of Medicine will require:

    * A completed undergraduate degree
    * At least one semester long subject (12.5 points) at second year level or above in each of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry
    * Completion of GAMSAT for local applicants and either GAMSAT or MCAT for international applicants
    * Satisfactory performance in a multi mini interview (MMI)

What BA22 posted :)

There's quite a bit of info here if you're curious (and have time) :P

Quote
Section III is made up of questions in three discipline  areas in the following proportions:

Chemistry 40%
Biology 40%
Physics 20%

...

The level of subject knowledge required for the Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences section of the test generally corresponds to the first year of university studies in biology and chemistry, and Year 12 in physics.

Yay more biology/chemistry than physics.

1st year bio (from listening to the Monash BIO1011 podcasts) is similar to VCE biology (except they speed it up) lol. (never started on sem 2 ones though)

If you didn't do highschool physics, and did a biomed degree, how are you expected to learn the required physics for GAMSAT? you have to teach it to yourself? Or just take it as your breadth in your biomed degree

Physics is a core subject in BBiomed at UMelb. (there are different streams for your level of knowledge, so don't worry :)) If I end up at biomed I'll be in the foundation/noob/whatever physics stream haha.

^ Depending upon VCE subjects, students will need to take either Physics for Biomedicine or Physics 2: Life Sciences and Environments.
