I 'spose I should mention my experience

I did post-vce French at uom this year, and it was an overall good experience, apart from one thing. It may just have been my bad luck, but for some reason there were quite a few people in my classes who did not belong in the post-vce stream and struggled with basic exercises, often making the classes frustrating to be in. Dunno if this happens in intermediate or even beginner the other way around, anybody else ever felt this way? =\

Perhaps it will go away in 2nd year ...
Was this in both semesters? I've spoken to people who did well in beginners, and their teachers put them in a higher class for 2nd semester. i don't see the point, if you haven't learn it, then it doesn't matter how well you went, because you will be really behind!

how much easier or harder is post-vce compared to intermediate?

Yeah it happened both semesters, was more severe in the 2nd -.-'. There are a couple of students who I don't believe are capable of passing the subject, but they don't seem to be concerned about their competence?

I couldn't give a comparison of post-vce to intermediate but the teachers were accommodating enough to ensure that everybody understood what was going on, provided it was all done in french. there wasn't too much assumed knowledge either, being able to express basic ideas would probably suffice to allow you to keep up heh

Really? that sucks, I know you're not allowed to do intermediate if you've done vce, which maybe they'd have done, but not very well at? Did you inquire about it?

[Unrelated, but a point worth making, generally.] I know someone who's been to France for a year, and is intelligent [on a national scholarship] and finds French at UoM perfectly stimulating; I'd previously thought that someone in her position would find it too easy.

no suprise on that point, looking back at the year. I'll remember the subject for the content of discussion a lot more than whatever active language learning we did, if any, and i think most other students feel the same way.

What do you mean by content of discussion?
