Hey guys, which question did you do- and how did you set it out. Paragraph by paragraph.

I did the second, and wrote about Nick, Andy and Meryl in that sequence.

ii. 'At the end of Look Both Ways, the film-maker convinces viewers that the charactersare capable of looking at their lives in new ways'. Do you agree?

This is what I can SLIGHTLY remember about my essay....

INTRO: Watts message.. meryl+nick+train driver+julia - said through the use of these characters watt explicates the notion that life needs to be lived at full potential and that their inner fears and anxieties need to be overcome so that life can be lived to its full potential... blah blah........ i said how her(watt) use of unique animations and a distinct soundtrack compliment and help her convey her ideas....... i used a few quotes in here as well: "look both ways", "sees death everywhere" and "ghastly".......

para1: focused on just meryl.. linked it back to how watt has portrayed the view that she is able to overcome inner emotions and realise that reality is not so deadly as she imagines..

para2: nick.. faced with mortality... connects/synchronicities with meryl = able to bond together and view life with new optimism

para3: andy+anna(=device used to align andy to view that "things just happen").. andy and the 'jammed' seat belt scene = andys view on life has changed (he laughs =overcome initital thoughts that robs death was a "major social injustice")

para 4: julia and traindriver ..... watts use of sound/fulfull length songs are used to depict their pain and suffering.. reconciliation= julias reality check that her husbands death was real and she needs to move through life with optimism....

para 5: phill and family relationships - nicks cancer affects him and makes him realise that family is most important - changed...

conclusion....

I linked back everything to how Watt and even the viewer would interpret the characters actions and how they inevitably depict the way in which each protagonists lives can change - capable of looking at their lives with refreshed/renewed qualities......

overall I was really happy with it.. I wrote 5.5 pages = somewhere around 900 words I'd say.

I think i said that through julia, watt shows that sometimes randoms "accidents" can at times be too much to handle, and although she does say to the tt that "its not your fault" the fact that rob is dead will forever stay with her- and is currentrly hindering her life. Cos we never see her become more optomistic. Meh- i stuffed up

Oh wow I was going to do Julia and the train driver too, but I felt that in the end if I did I'd concentrate more on the techniques she used and it'd become more suitable for the first prompt instead.

I think you'll do really well jsimmo, I saw your essays and you've got a great talent for LBW.

I chose the second one and glad i did so.

Structure of my writting

General Intro.
Paragraph 1. Totally about Nick (Slight touch on his mothers words about how you remember someone how they lived, not died)
Paragraph 2. Meryl, also mentioning that Nick has a big impact on her.
Paragraph 3. Andy and Anna. Also mentioned that Anna's outlook on life changes, but debatable whether it is to a positive or negative view)
Paragraph 4. Julia and the Train driver (They are able to move on with life after apologizing to each other, passing the stage of grief, also shown through the background song the Arlenes  - Lonely wont leave me alone [pleased i managed to fit this in somewhere])
Conclusion. Summed up that everyone changes even if they weren't directly affected by the event to a positive or negative.

Ended up being 4 or so pages.

And Jsimmo, really impressive plan you wrote there. Hope you get the an awesome mark, sounds like you deserve it =]

that was pretty much what i did except i gave Anna a seperate paragrapgh and didn't include Julia. Mine was a bit sappy too and over emotive but should get a good mark.
Happy i didn't choose the first topic, seemed pretty bland.

I thought both questions were ridiculously straightforward, and I'm sure most of you guys would have done similar ones in class. I was disappointed they weren't trickier. Did anyone else just regurgitate an old high scoring response?

why didn't anyone mention anything about how some characters do not see new ways in life?

I don't think you could talk about the smacky when you only see him for thirty seconds and in essence isn't really part of a narritive thread. Sorry if you were being sarcastic, touch hard to pick up on the internets..
