English Language Question (non exam related)

Heys  :)

I was going through my subject options for next year and i came across english lanugage, doing unit 3/4 english language without doing unit1/2 can it be done? Also if i do it, i have to do a distance ed since my school doesnt provide it which means once a week doing english language (might also get a tutor). I am pondering on this because if i do double english i got a second chance in doing well in one of the englishs (well hopefully) plus not much people do english language compared to other subjects also the scaling is better than english... Please post your opinions i know it seems improbable i just want to keep my options open, if i cant do this then ill do psychology instead

My school has never run 1/2 Eng. Language, but we've had 3/4 classes for the past couple of years. In terms of distance ed, you probably wouldn't suffer with this subject because it's not very dense. I found it boring personally, but if you'll be good at it then go ahead, I'd say.

i've been doing english language since year 11 and it's one of my most enjoyable subjects... but i think that it's mainly just because our class is so lively and we've always got something to laugh about. i would've definetely done it by correspondance if my own school didn't offer it though. that's just my personal opinion because i think english language has done a lot for me.

doing two englishes does really help though. i do mainstream english as well and i think i've improved in both subjects simulataneously because english language will help enrichen your fluency of writing while mainstream english gets you to keep practising your essay writing (since you don't do many at all in english language). although i think english language is the only subject you can write 'shit' and the 'c bomb' in =P

btw, i do psychology as well =]. i just picked it up this year as well (i'm in year 12 btw)

^ No Thornbury is the only one. You don't really need to go there at all, except for the once a semester seminars (which are also optional). I do Distance Ed English Language - I've only been there twice this year. If you have any questions, you call/email your teacher or you write your questions on your weekly work so she can reply. I hired a tutor to help me rather than asking the teacher too much though.

Yes, units 3 and 4 can be done without 1 and 2. A lot of the metalanguage learned in 1&2 is re-used in 3&4, but the main areas of study are quite different.

Thornbury is THE Distance Education Centre of Victoria. It's just like a real school, except you have less teacher-contact. There's only one of each school!

Also, you shouldn't need a tutor. You can bug your teacher through email and phone calls as much as you'd like.

OICC so it is mainly self teaching your self and asking your teacher for help once and a while, but is it worth it? Can you get a good score?
