Art Folio Tips

I got A+ for my folio last year and i thought ill give some tips for those that are gonna do Art next year.

Sorry i founded this forum a bit late =p.

You pretty much gotta stand out from your cohorts so

1. Do something different but not too crazy. Know your Limits to your own ability.

2. Show some research, i inserted gallery artworks and pamphlets and expressed how it has ' inspired and influenced me and how it contributed to my final ' even if some didn't contribute to your final, note it in anyway and say why you took a different perspective and why you preferred another one. It could also lead to another idea. Chain reaction going on.

3. Number your pages, if some things connected combining random ideas. Show them and express them clearly.

4.Use a lot of art terminology, and Highlight them.

5.For your finals its good to do a extensive annotation and meanings and messages to them.

6.Make sure you used various mediums and methods and experimenting.

7.If you changed your idea half way through the semester, its okay as long as the previous idea helped consolidate the new one.

Hope this helps.

ps. some other things i did was that i branched out of the old fashioned paintings and stuff, i went more modern and did animations and cartoons.

The exam is a killer for those who suck at English like me, i only got a B+ for the exam, it felt like doing Two English exams.

I definitely agree with this comment. The studio arts exam is horrible.. a 5 page 15 mark question at the end is going to be awful :( haha

There was some very good advice up above, for all doing art next year.. take it into heavy consideration, especially the points about using art terminology and lots and lots of annotation!
Oh! And its a good idea, if you don't want to number the pages, to mark your criteria with postits or something similar, labelling them 1 - 6

Just thought I'd pop in and say that I've received full marks for my folio this year and I studied photography exclusively. When I started out I found it a little tricky, as most examples and advice weren't tailored around photography, so if anyone needs any guidance.. I'm more than happy to help!

:)

I'm not feeling too bad about the exam, but not great either. [I love English though!] I tend to get a little repetitive in the final question though. AND my best commentaries aren't sourced, so I have to go and find more dammit@!

Yeah.. dates in the folio...
I only found out about them the day before my folio was due in, so I had to spend the entire night going through both my folios and write all the dates in, which was really tricky as I had so many as everything was thematically arranged and did not follow a linear order.... but I survived.. all done now.  Wish I did it sooner though!
I miss the folio bit... the exam is a massive headache!! I'm a nervous wreck!
I'm really freaking out about that part...
I already did an english exam.
I don't see why we can't just draw a pretty picture in the exam..

I cant really remmebr, the guy that painted those melting clocks.
Peter Booth
Goya
and Evard MUNCH!!

out of them goya and munch were my favourites. Booth is a peice of shit who calls that art? look like friggin crap. sorry my opinion lol. But easy to bullshit on.

PS. Theres always that issue on what is deemed art, i just remembered that i put a lil intro on my Folio with my opinion on what is Art.

lol.  Yeah, different people have differing viewpoints on "what is art?" -its almost a philosophical question... You probably wouldn't like my final piece then... :D lol it is very similar to "Painting 1977" by Booth, (well... except mine has a Corvette instead of a bloke... but kind of the same composition; dark colours, road with light at the end and a heavy use of symbols)
The good thing is that as long as you can justify your opinion with artists, you can say almost anything.  I don't think art is intended for everyone to like.  The controversy is what makes it interesting...

Do you know of any good places where you can find out info on the artists, like study guides or something?? (BTW I'm doing Peter Booth, Patricia Piccinini, Frederick Mc Cubbin and Jackson Pollock)
