hey but on the statistics....exam 1  is out of 80????how does that work when there are only 40 marks obtainable?

Probably cross marked..

Most subjects have two markers marking the paper(eg English). Mathematics on the other hand only requires one marker marking it. So they double the mark and that gets you the final raw score.

yeah you get consequential as long as the complexity of the second question does not change
like
if the previous answer you got didn't make the next question easier or harder, you will gain full marks for the second question

If you apply for a statement of marks, your paper gets remarked again. For bio midyear last year, normally it's only marked once, but since I got a SoM, it got marked twice, and the marks given by the two examiners differed by 1 mark, so in effect, I got a half mark. Doubling the marks avoids this.

wait so are you saying all papers get marked at least twice....but getting a SoM means that it get marked again which may effect your marks for that subject and in effect, your enter???

No, most subjects get marked just once I think. Ones which get marked twice are the more subjective ones like English. As for the SoM, it may well affect your SS and ENTER, but in my case, I might've gained that half mark, or I might've lost it - it can go either way and in the end I wouldn't say it really matters.

VCAA cbf for maths and sciences I'm pretty sure. They just double it later.

I dont think they mark it again for SoM shin. They have all the data ready in their comps- and just print if off

Nah I remember reading somewhere that they remark it. Hence why I had a half mark on my bio despite bio being a subject where it's only marked once.

any subject where there is only one answer eg maths accounting etc is only marked once.
subjects like english, business etc will be marked twice as your marks could be affected by the person who is correcting it

It would be wise not to question the VCAA overlords and just go by the score ranges (41-55/80 got you an B+ last year)

Wow... That's like, just over 50%... Now there is hope for me :smitten:

EDIT: I'm buying a statement of marks for each subject this year now... Goodbye $70... I'm gonna be so poor after this is over; hopefully it's worth it. :(

I like knowing exactly what I got, and not a rough estimation. I guess I'm just pedantic on that sort of stuff. Lol
