EASY QUESTION

I know this is unit 2 stuff but can somebody answer this question

HOw do u noe whether a substance is acting as an acid or base?
its not as clear cut as seeing which is losing or gaining a proton

If H3O+ or H+ is a product, its acting as an acid. If OH- is a product, its a base

According to the Bronsted-Lowry (Think I got the spelling right) Theory

If a chemical is able to donate a proton (H+) then it is an acid.
If a chemical is able to accept a proton, then it is a base
