When to use a calculator.

How do we know when we can, take the shortcut and just throw things in the calculator.

Say a question was worth 1 mark. I know for that all is required is the actual starting equation of some sort then answer.

But is that possible with a 2 mark question as well? For example a question asking for area between two integrals which was worth 2 marks.

State initial equation then answer = fine?

if it was worth 2 marks ud write the intergral and terminals and equation to get the full 2 marks and then the answer.

Here's why I think PRCHEAT is shithouse:

I recommend these default calculator functions as a substitute, found under [2nd] [DISTR] (the VARS button):

normalcdf() = ,
where X is a normally distributed random variable with mean and standard deviation
(Hint: Use "1e99" and "-1e99" for infinity and negative infinity, respectively)

For a binomial distribution, X, with trials and a probability of success :

binompdf(n,p,x) = ,

binomcdf(n,p,x) =

Once you learn how to use these, you will never go back. These functions are so much more versatile than PRCHEAT.

Here are some reasons why:

1. You can then use Ans, after using these functions - something you can't do with PRCHEAT.

2. PRCHEAT cannot solve problems where is unknown, for example. The calculator can do this if you are clever with the functions.

Nope, is it safe to assume that if it doesnt ask for exact values or show working that we can use calculator and just state the answer.

I've heard lots of bad things about PrCheat...
And there's no need for it coz normal calculator functions do the same job.
So yeah, never tried it before...:)

Actually you can use Ans after you have terminated the program.

It's stored in the RAM, so you can.

:)

PrCheat is not a substitute for every single probability calculation, all it does it make calculations easy (and doesn't have InvNorm(p,mean, std). )

PrCheat has been known to delete all the programs installed on people's calculators, so if you are willing to risk every other program on your calculator, then use it, but the built in functions are more then capable of anything you need.
