You work out Q15 by verifying this:

$\mbox{Pr}(A \cap B) = \mbox{Pr}(A) \times \mbox{Pr}(B)$

For example:

If $A = \{ 1,2\}$ , $B = \{ 1,3,5\}$ , then: $A \cap B = \{1 \}$

$\mbox{Pr}(A) = \frac{1}{3}$

$\mbox{Pr}(B) = \frac{1}{2}$

$\mbox{Pr}(A \cap B) = \frac{1}{6}$

Since $\mbox{Pr}(A) \times \mbox{Pr}(B) = \frac{1}{6} = \mbox{Pr}(A \cap B)$ , then events $A$ and $B$ are independent.

Another example:

If $A = \{ 1,2\}$ , $B = \{ 1,2,5\}$ , then: $A \cap B = \{1,2 \}$

$\mbox{Pr}(A) = \frac{1}{3}$

$\mbox{Pr}(B) = \frac{1}{2}$

$\mbox{Pr}(A \cap B) = \frac{1}{3}$

Since $\mbox{Pr}(A) \times \mbox{Pr}(B) = \frac{1}{6} \neq \mbox{Pr}(A \cap B)$ , then events $A$ and $B$ are not independent!

i disagree with question 20, i got B

20 is B because all the other domains won't satisfy the one-to-one rule (horizontal check)

Correct. By quick observation (calculus is easy, or graphics), the turning points of the graph are at $x=0$ and $x=-\frac{1}{2}$ . Any domain that crosses either x-value is invalid, leaving you only with option B.

hmm... very well i would suspect.... i would imagine upper 45 (perhaps even a 50

) depending on the stength of your cohort. i mean thats definitely 3 A+s.

enwiabe dropped 3 marks on Exam 2 (full on Exam 1) and got 44. (97% on SACs).
