VTAC Study Scores - Scaled or Raw?

Well after spending a fair amount of time today working out my ENTER, as every other Year 12 has done sometime in the past couple of months or so, the question came past my mind again:

1) Was the Study Score i got (in 07' for U3/U4 subject) from VTAC scaled or raw?

2) Were the results i got for midyear exams scaled or raw?

Also, one more thing that came up whilst calculating some study scores..

Say you're working out your SS for English,
Three General Assessments:
1) 25 (internal)
2) 25 (internal)
3) 50 (external)

And you get:
1) 23/25
2) 23/25
3) 40/50

Does that not mean you would get a raw study score of 43? (23+23+40/2 or 23+23+40/100*50)

Just wondering if study scores are a linear function, or exponential. I've had it ingrained in me that 40 = A+, and anything above is how good that A+ is, in which case basic mathematics can't be used to accurately determine the ENTER. I've had a feeling something has gone horrifically wrong in my calculations/understanding somewhere, so bare with me :P

Thanks in advance.

1) Raw
2) You got a letter grade, you can't scale those

Study scores don't work like that. It's one big ranking game. The top 9% of the people doing a subject get 40+. That's it (this correlates to usually A+ = top 10%). If the best mark is say 60% then the person who got 60% will get 50 SS.
They're normally distributed with a mean of 30 and standard deviation of 7. If you don't do methods, this means it looks like a bell curve.

so then how are raw scores dictated?

and isnt the distribution process involved later on when scaling is brought in?

How would you go about formulating a RAW study score?

It's dictated by where you stand in the cohort. Your 3 combined GAs are compared to everyone else. Depending on where you stand in that list is what your study score is.

Formulating raw score - predict what GAs you will get (A+, A, B+ etc)
