I feel so outdated, using my pathetic little TI-83 :(

Mind you if I ever need to graph something or calculate something then I just use Mathematica. Either you're not allowed anything in uni exams, or they're open book and you can use your calculate but it doesn't help you anyway.
I've never used my ti-84 since I finished year 12. Uni maths you pretty much never need it, and if i need to look at a graph doing it on the computer is usually quicker and better.

I NEVER plan to use my dodgy Ti-83 again. Free from maths at last!

i actually like the n-spire :P
Well you might like an extra one! In that case, head over to the SELLING forum :P

I chose the TI-84 for today. Wasn't the best choice. Would've saved a lot of time if I had simply keyed in the equations to find the derivatives for multiple choice :(

So...which would you choose out of TI-89 and nSpire CAS? Preferably would appreciate a response from someone who has tried both of them...

TI-89.

and if you REALLY know what you are doing, nSpire CAS

though the difference is little, the nSpire is a little faster, has a few more functions and superpowahs [not really], and make things prettier

Hmmm...I heard that TI-nSpire can't do direction fields, implicit differentiation and the graphing is a bit dodgy. Can you confirm?

i'm pretty sure it can do all that, but just really obscure commands

Just use a TI-84.  Easier.

CAS rules.
More functions = a better advantage

CAS allows you to program some pretty useful things such as one step vector resolutes, perpendicular resolutes etcetc. On a tech exam, you're not obliged to show the arithmetic so you can go straight to the answer your CAS gives pretty much, saving you about a minute of arithmetic in many cases.

CAS may appear harder to use, but sticking to 84 is almost like sticking to DOS when you can have WinXP.

I actually find the structures/menu of CAS to be a lot more organised and logical than non-CAS calculators.
