Yeah I think all ANU VNers should meet up for a drink or something - if that's something everyone would like to do of course.

I'm up for it.  Anyone else?

Also, I was the one who asked the question about Warrumbul, if that helps.

Oh, I went to pre departure, and EZ was there too.

Does anyone know how to tell if lectures are recorded? I've just been on the timetable generator, and the first year maths lectures clash with both 2nd year physics subjects running in 1st semester... which does not look good.

In addition, does anyone know what microeconomics entails? Is it mathsy? Considering taking it in first semester...
They'll almost certainly be recorded. Almost every lecture is recorded, especially for the bigger courses like first year maths. The only problem is if you need to watch the lecturer do calculations on the board or something.

People who are commerce students think that micro 1 is mathsy but maths students don't really. It involves solving linear equations and reading off graphs. It does get more mathsy in later years though. I don't have any personal experiences in uni economics though, it's all anecdotal.

Yeah I just checked on Wattle (as I tutored MATH1115 last year) and there are lecture recordings. More important for maths though is that lecture notes are put up online. Other than first year subjects, very few maths and physics (and science in general) courses are recorded, but usually lecture notes are available online. But yeah, don't worry about the clash too much, just concentrate on the subjects that you find hardest.

And as eriny said, micro doesn't really have much maths involved. This is because doing methods in yr12 isn't a prereq for economics at ANU, unlike most other Go8 unis, so they have to dumb it down a bit in first year.

Have you done or do you know anyone doing eco at ANU?  I'm considering dping some economics as well, but I wouldn't start until 2nd semester 1st year at the earliest.  Would it be worthwhile to do micro A then, or better to do it Sem 1 in 2nd year?  And also, how mathsy are the 2nd years courses for eco (since I'm interested in doing something with a bit of maths in it that isn't actually maths...).

I haven't done econ (really, I haven't done anything but maths since first year...) but I have a couple of friends who do it. But I'm pretty sure micro 1 and macro 1 are available in both semesters as lots of (stupid) people fail it the first time and have to do it the next semester. Second year econ courses tend to start having a bit of maths in it (such as game theory in micro 2, though obviously throughout there's always a bit of simple calculus being thrown around). There's also maths for economists subjects as second year, but they're more maths and less economics (they're basically the same as MATH1115 and MATH1116 but mildly applied).

Most certainly, so Cianyx what happened to Fenner? Did they run out of space as well?

Yeah. Got moved to Warrambul

My room is retarded in that it is on an angle. It differs to the normal room which is a long rectangular one as mine is sort of irregularly shaped

How's your view? Apparently, I'll get a lovely view of a wall when I move in.

Was hoping to get the room next to mine. If I turn my head slightly, I get the view of a mountain.
