Self-taught accounting

To cut the story short, i'm planning to do Commerce next year (Comm/Arts if possible, we find out only in a matter of days...) but I didn't do accounting 3+4, so I would be struggling a little to keep up with the lectures, I imagine. Though courses assume no prior knowledge and teach from scratch, so i've heard, I would still like to make a start on it before it's too late.

That said, what would be good things to do to prepare myself? Should I borrow an accounting 3+4 textbook? Do some research? Where do I start? Do you think it is necessary to get a general gist of the accounting 3+4 course?

Thanks :D

I also have the same question as Survivor except replace Accounting with Economics.

Don't worry guys, I did VCE Accounting and Economics and you'll be 100% fine at uni. Heck, VCE Accounting is really small business bookkeeping and you don't really do that in uni (maybe 1% of it in is in UoM Accounting Reports and Analysis).

Although, the students who did VCE Accounting and Economics will have a little headstart as they will know the fundamentals  of the studies. However, it doesn't really matter. :) [look at Collin for example he is like a genius at econ and he hasn't done VCE Econ ;)]

It doesn't matter at all if you didn't do Economics and Accounting. They start from scratch in university.

Yeah they'll got over everything you need to know in uni so don't worry about it and as AppleXY said VCE accounting is quite different to uni accounting.

I'd actually suggest you quickly go over the fundamentals (as preparation for your first classes) just so you feel familiar with accounting before you start it.
Just go over what assets, liabilities and Owner's equity is. Know what Profit and Loss , Cash flow statements and Balance sheets are in general (although they may have differnt names at uni). You'll just feel a bit more at ease going into the suject.

As for economics:
 What is economics?
Supply and demand.

Just try get into the lingo too

Yeah, though don't get mixed up/confused. If you don't get it, stop reading as it will be taught much throughly in classes. [Although, the fundamentals are pretty easy lol]
