I doubt that was due to attacks as much as it was to poor hosting (lol, it's colocated with VELS and probably a bunch of other doe crap.

Do you reckon it's a "proper" colocated server, or a machine sitting in someone's office? I've always imagined the server as an old office PC nobody's using any more, but maybe that's just me? :P

Edit: Anyone have any clue what this is for:
https://www.vass.vic.edu.au/
Came across it today :P

Don't they have DDoS protection anywho? Like Proxleic http://www.prolexic.com/
That DDoS protection stuff is expensive :P

Speaking of DDoS, this was from a while ago (a DoS, not DDoS... DDoS is from multiple machines):

Protection from things like this are a lot easier, use something like mod_evasive for Apache :)

:o I've just realised something
as much as I'm scared as hell about results, in a way I can't wait so that I can give my school the finger =D for like, not knowing who I am, never giving me academic prizes at assembly etc.
Like, near the start of this year the head of the senior school asked me if I was new to the school because he hadn't seen me before x_x and the head of campus has never addressed me by name so I don't know if he knows me either xD

and despite what enter I actually get, if it happens the feeling of owning most of their favourites would be awesome :D

And I've heard of VASS, but can't remember what it is. There are too many stupid acronyms for teachers. (one I can remember is PLT = principles of teaching and learning. no, there is no mistake in the order of letters on my part :P)

I think VASS is the computer program that the VCE administrator at each school enters the results (SACs and SATs) to be forwarded onto VCAA.

Thanks for the votes of confidence ppl LOL. But yeah uni offers is gonna be much more nerve-wracking for me (and BA22) than Dec 17. Not that I'm not terrified about Dec 17 too.

I think I'll check at 8.30am-ish. Cos at 7am everyones gonna be asking everyone what they got blahblahblah so I'm gonna check when that's died down and I can cry in peace without ppl bugging me :P

She likes the sympathy and attention she gets from people after saying "Oh i'm going to do crap". It's nice to hear people say, "OMG NO YOU'LL DO AWESOME!" - so she's conditioned herself into such behaviour that if she acts dejected and fearful of her marks, people will boost her confidence for her. It's really nothing more than a pathetic attention grab.

Or the fear could be real. Lots of smart people fear these sorts of events because in the extremely unlikely event that it goes badly, their sense of self is jeopardised. I mean, if you're seen as the "smart kid" all your life, there's lots of external and internal pressure to succeed because not doing so could expose you as a 'fake' and render you 'talentless' (especially if all your success is in academics) in your own mind. That can be very scary.

was originally aiming to get into med but screwing up the UMAT has taken a lot of pressure if that makes any sense. now im gunning for biomed so there is no longer a massive pressure to score a high 99. still nervous times ahead though :'(

I don't understand the people who state they have failed, and proceed to get >95% on whatever they 'failed' in.
So that my 'I did well' is worse than their 'I failed'. meh :P

Thanks for that wonderful insight into my mind, enwiabe. *clap*

Or maybe I'm under a shitload of pressure from family and friends - many of whom already have children with high 99 scores - and thus traditional "Asian pride" dictates that I need to achieve similar scores or risk my parents' disappointment and shame. It's not a nice feeling watching your parents avoid the issue of VCE when speaking to friends because they are ashamed of your ENTER score.

As well as the fact that I'm the only person who knows how shit I really went on my exams and thus it's incredibly frightening when friends tell me they expect me to dux the school, or whatever.

i.e. what Eriny said, lol.
