Never got speeds close to this when I was connecting my modem to PC via USB. Praying that Optus will upgrade their old subscribers to 20mbps down and 512kpbs up; they've already done it for customers subscribed to their fusion plan... probably to ensure that they'll hit their usage limit quicker and end up paying $150 for every excess gigabyte they use.
Telstra's the fastest cable ISP atm, their newest plans offer 30 mbps down and 1 mbps up!

Can you confirm this?. Have you got any links. That would be great if Optus improved there upload speed.

Yeah guys, Telstra does possess the fastest speeds right now. I was going to get it, but my modem only supported 17mb/s not 30. Cbfed replacing the modem, not worth it.

Yeah guys, Telstra does possess the fastest speeds right now
ignore the following post, i didnt read context, cable != adsl
everybody is using the same infrastructure, there is no technical speed advantage at any ISP.
the theoretical maximum for residntial adsl2+ is 24mbps.

modems can support the following standards:
adsl1: 8mbps downstream
adsl2: 12mbps downstream
adsl2+ 24mbps

above that you need to be connected through special stuffs not available residentially (fiber optics, FTTN blah blah)

i would also like to express my distaste of telstra and their overpricing bullshit.

speed differences between ISPs mean you may be using different DSLAMs, but they mostly do not have an advantage of each other, just depends where you live exactly.

edit: oh yeah, im on 8000/318 because all the ISPs have downs and wont build adsl2 at the Bentleigh exchange (delayed blah blah)

you can check the availability of adsl2 at your exchange here: http://adsl2exchanges.com.au/
