need a bit of advice med wise
« on: December 16, 2008, 07:15:55 pm »
i did well at the umat (61) and got an interview at bendigo for the rural access scheme at monash med. felt i interviewed very well and i thought i was to get an enter of 96-97.
well things went well result wise, but probably not as hoped.
95.30 and now i have no idea what my chances are.

if anyone can offer anything helpful it would really be appreciated.

still a good chance, rural entry schemes always have lower enter requirements

I got a Umat of 54 last year, and an ENTER of 94.05 and i'm going into my second year of med at monash next year

Good luck

Yej, i interviewed in bendigo

trust me, my score is not by any means the lowest, there are people in the course from rural areas with scores like 86 and 88 (i know people personally who got in with these scores)

To be honest i'm really not sure, i applied at UNSW last year but didn't get in, but as an interstate applciant i didn't have my interview until after christmas, have you already had yours?

All interstate applicants have theirs in January. I applied in time for first round offers and still got offered one in January. This is done because they know most people applying from interstate will prefer their homestate uni, so they'll see whether or not you stay in your homestate or not before interviewing you to save one another time.

Oh you meant you haven't even received an offer for an interview? Hmm. Do you know anyone else who applied the same round as you? I'm not too sure about how the system works...

Yeah, you're already at a disadvantage because the main interview round has been conducted, did you apply for University of Newcastle, they tend to have lower entry requirements as well

I don't think he's at a disadvantage. Mine is in January for the reasons stated above, and they said doing so will not disadvantage me in any way.

yeh, they say that, but you are disadvantaged

The whole process favours home state applicants as they are the only ones who will get offers in the main round. The best of the interstaters will fight it our for the remainding spots in the late or final round.
