I was kind of in my second primary school, but not in any overt, targeting way - there were just some bully-type people I just didn't feel safe around. I don't seem to recall any incidents of bullying at my first primary school or even in high school but I've seen it happen to other people at all the schools I've been to.
And Mao, I don't think the problem is much better at private schools. Remember the YouTube bullying awhile ago when some kid was dumped in a bin? Weren't they from Xavier or something? And I read in the Herald Sun that some all-girls' schools have "Slap Day" or something, where they just all single out a student to slap for whatever reason whenever a teacher's back is turned. Really, there are some mean people from all over, the only difference is the level of sophistication in which the meanness is expressed.
You really shouldn't trust the Herald Sun. Our school was mentioned as a 'slapping' school, where girls apparently slap other girls for not being slutty enough. I laughed so much when I read that. It was the talk of the week at school. I have never heard of such a thing at my school and I (and many other girls) asked around and no one had ever of such a thing. I later found out some Herald Sun journalists had talked to some girls in my year level about the slapping and they said they had never heard of it. Funny how that didn't turn up in the article.
Although I do agree that girls often do bullying behind teacher's backs and that teachers never find out because its not physical, but more verbal and even more psychological. It's happened to me before (and some of my friends) and its worse than physical bullying. Girls know how to make people feel shit over a period of time just from a glance every now and again, (and being excluded).
