What do your aliases mean?

My first ever new thread, borne from waiting-for-uni-to-start restlessness.

I was wondering what inspiration, tongue-in-cheek intent or meaning people put in when they chose their FSN/BoS/VN aliases.

For my part, 'Ninox' is the name for a genus of roughly 20 species of owl in Asia and Australasia generally referred to as the 'hawk owls.' I picked it as an alias because I liked the sound of it, and partially because owls were connected with learning and wisdom.

One of my friends randomly came up with a list of words with 'mel' in it and I liked the caramel one.

The reason why I chose to use this on FSN was because I thought my other username was lame and I was sick of it, which most people will know by now anyway because it is my msn one xD

coblin is a mixture of Collin and goblin. My nickname was first used when the whole year level was playing Magic: The Gathering (trading card game) in year 8.

well my friend and i were brainstorming nicknames to call each other, and from the wide selection (including melanoma, mel-icious and mel-ignant), i daresay melodrama was the nicest one =]

LOL. very cute pokemon were one of the longest lasting crazes at my primary school. Cards didnt last too long, but the games provided enough depth that as grade 6's we discussed various tactics for taking down certain people's pokemon.

Excalibur is obviously the the sword given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake (contrary to popular belief, the sword pulled out of the stone was actually Clarent) in the various Arthurian legends.

However, this wasn't the way I got the name however!

I started playing MUDs (which are online text RPGs) when I was in Year 3-4. I originally called myself 'Excaliber' as I thought 'ex-' would mean not a and 'caliber' bullet (given the very swordplay nature of these MUDs). As I learnt of the actual sword, I corrected the spelling ;P

I've stuck with the name ever since. That said, I do go by another name which I don't tell anyone....;p (it's almost like my alternate personality).

My nickname came from the song 'Midas touch' but Midnight Star which was pretty popular 3 or so years ago. Really liked the song at the time, so my gaming nickname became midas/midas_touch. It's pretty much stood the test of time since then.

Well. My name Costa was for some reason turned into CostaRoar on myspace (people just started calling me that on the net for some reason) And then one day I was at school and called my friend JessicARGHHHH like a pirate and then she said costARGHH like a pirate so turned out like that
