Debaters usually become pro at English

I did debating since Year 7. I think it helped in some way shape or form.

Lol, me too. Unfortunately, we always lost; so I didn't become as pro as I would have liked. XD

I did debating (and now adjudicating). I don't know where the causality is though - people who at good at English do well at debating or people who do debating become good at English. Judging by some of my opponents, I'd say the former.

I personally agree...in my case, it was certainly the former. I've consistently received high marks in English or English-related subjects since primary school, but I was a bit of a wreck when it came to impromptu public speaking when I first took up debating in Year 9. I fluked Best Speaker in my 1st ever debate only because I was 1st Affirmative, with a 100% pre-written speech LOL..but otherwise, it really took me 1-2 years to get the hang of it. It has done wonders for me though, so I'm very glad I took it up.

I do debating (debating award this year..woo!) and i think that it has really helped me in English. Especially when writing persuasive pieces, i feel as though the vocabulary/style of writing comes naturally after so much practice (especialy secret topics).

Nobody got 40+ in H & HD at my school. :S... The teacher was expecting FIFTIES from two of her students. They didn't even scrape 40's. :(

If you went to my school, trust me, you would want your name in the paper. :S (Still can't believe 1 person who I never heard of getting her/his name in the paper :tickedoff:... Probably not even from our school; I knew like, every year 12 & 11 there. :S)

Haha gj!

Not sure about exact numbers but quite afew people got 40+ from my school this year... An above average cohort from my school I think.

Except afew scores were lower than I thought... Like for eco I expected about 4 people over 40 and one of those to get 48+ but she only got 40. Ahh well, that's how it goes I guess.
