P.S. MHS fails BM, only 5 50's.

Remarkably down on last year.

Can anyone guess what % of students (high achieving) would choose not to have their results published in the paper?

I'm trying to explain to family that 48 'out of 50' is not 96%...so instead I'm saying I was 34th out of the 10,000 people who studied PE, as 33 people got 49 or 50 and I got 48, is that fair to say?

The whole ranking system, and that I could've scored 20% on my exam and still scored 48, just doesn't seem to click sometimes LOL.

Or is there plenty of people who don't permit the Herald Sun to use their results?
*Sigh* Stupid vce...

Try to explain by relating study scores to a bell curve graph. A lot of people have at least seen them before
Also you can find on VCAA's site somewhere "45 or above = top 2%". From that you should be able to convince anyone who still believes in a linear relationship that 48 is at least top 1%

Also, I accidently didn't give permission in 2006, I thought I had but apparently on one form it said no when I called my school angry my results were not published (I swear I had said yes at every opportunity in all that paperwork). Im sure this would happen to other people as well. It's on no by default.

I just noticed the number of people doing well in Arabic seem to be decreasing :( Why did it have to be so hard?

A very low portion of the Arabic community can speak the true language. For example, the Lebanese community speak Arabic in a slang way-i.e. not actual Arabic. As time goes past, the interest of families towards the languages other than English spoken in homes diminishes. Nevertheless, LOTE is not something learnt in Year 12, learning Turkish and mastering it was a priority for myself- Learning your mother tongue is a must ;) (being 1337 at it :D).

I used to take Arabic classes in Year 8 & 9, so I know a few general sentences :P, but it is a pretty hard language.
In the future, the high achievers for all LOTEs will comprise of those students who live and breath the language at home, with there friends and pretty much everywhere they go.
