I realised this when I got stuck in the exams because I didn't know what to write... I had to rely on memorised quotes most of the time. :S

It is correct imo.
Writing practice essays is the best way of revising, but if your not getting them marked its kind of useless. Get them marked, learn from your mistakes.
Chances are if you've wrote a lot a very similar essay topic will be on the exam

no still incorrect imo. writting essays of continual low quality doesnt help at all. understanding the text in all its complexities is the most pertinent idea. only then will writing heaps of ideas actually be beneficial in getting higher end 40s imo.

- Use the best resource you have - your teacher - wisely. Ask for extra essay topics and analyses when you run out, and see if he or she has any secondary materials (such as different English textbooks, study guides, etc.) Also ask your teacher how you can improve your work and follow up any corrections and aim to fix them.

- Read up as much as you can on your selected novels and your Context to gain a thorough, multi-layered perspective and understanding of them.

- Do a close reading of your texts so you can pick up complex ideas that the ordinary student overlooks. Eg, what are some aspects of the characterisation that the author has deliberately included in creating this character? How does this invite us to respond? Teachers are impressed when students are able to distinguish these intricacies and it immediately adds depth and dimension to your response.

- While some disagree, I think that it is vital to write practice essays frequently GIVEN that your content and ideas are sound and have been checked. It familiarises you with topics and also increases your writing and thinking speed. Avoid merely regurgitating past essays though as it probably would not completely relate and link back to your topic.

- Try to maintain a high ranking. Though I only got a low-mid A+ for SACs, my GA1 and GA2 got dragged up majorly by my exam mark since I was ranked first. Just for the record, I got 48.

^^

Good advice.

I wrote a lot of practise essays - but that was to further my perspectives on the novel and prepare my self for different topics (which worked for me as both Text response and context prompts on the exam were similar to ones I had already wrote on)

Definately use your teacher, they are there to help!

I went to 5 or 6 English lectures, they are usually assessors (I had the chief assessor and the 2 down from that) and they all give new and different perspectives for you to consider.

READ you novels multiple times. I found I missed a lot on the initial readings.

You need to maintain a HIGH A - A+ average on SACS. I got A's and A+'s all year and an A+ on the exam for a study score of 41.

Good Luck! :)

Also,

When the exams loom closer, I found getting random topics and planning for them in 5 minutes and writing intros and topic sentences helped.

Saves time on writing whole essays and still gives you exposure to different topics.

Quickens your thinking/idea flow stuff too

This was the most effective way I found to study for English (for text responses, that is): get essay questions from past papers etc. and write up essay plans for them. By yr12 it should be robotic writing an essay; it's the content that becomes crucial.

satisfy the exam criteria in every piece of work you do during the year.

and yeah, no need to spam full essays when you get close to the exam. you'll probably get sick of doing them by the time the exam comes around.
