I'll be on MSN and IRC during that hour. Symbolism means nothing to me - personal benefits override it.

Whats the point of it, seeing as it's impractical to leave your lights off all the time etc. You can't permanently change your lifestyle to repeat it for more than 1 little hour so I dont get why :P

I bet my dad will just cut the fuse for our house - then we will be carbon neutral (except for our breathing - maybe we should stand next to some trees?)

I think it's a great idea. I hope everyone at least turns off their room light and turn the telly (if your not watching it) off at the power socket.

lol this Earth Hour is so stupid. Electricity in households during the night is not in use anyway ? LOL

1 hour is not going to make any difference.

Precautions should've been taken ages ago, perhaps even before our generation.

Hence this problem is irreversible.

I don't know whether global warming is true or not, but there definitely must be a tax on pollution. Air quality is a cost to society, whether global warming exists or not.

Its more symbolic rather than a making a huge difference. It creates interest and promotes the idea that people should be more aware of how they are using electricity.

doing something is better than doing nothing....

do you suppose because of the irreversibility that we should throw it in the too-hard basket?

I'm a bit worried about people debating whether or not global warming exists. If you state that, you're sounding like John Howard did ten years ago. Move with the times people and open your eyes.

:P

you do realise that statement assumes global warning actually exists

not that i disagree with you, but there are some pretty compelling arguments against it...

It's more like a lack of solid proof of causation. Correlation doesn't imply causation. I am worried that anything less than a complete acceptance of global warming will become as shunned as much as holocaust revisionism is. People should be more open-minded.
