OMG WTF ITS 55 913 files EACH at 198kb!!!
FUCKEN EATING UP MY HARDRIVE

Ok... As I was transferring files from my computer to my external hardrive I noticed that some weird file names that I had never heard of were being transfered. Files like happy feet and a lot of ZIP files. From guessing Id say ther wood be like 10,000 files in this folder... I found out the folder they are all in is in MyMusic/Shared
but when I click to go into that folder my computer just freezez and the little hour glass comes up and then it goes to Not Responding...

Can someone
1) Explain what has happened and how those files have got there (I'm guessing thru downloading on LimeWire even though I never downloaded those files)

Edit: was going to asks how to delete them cause it woodnt open but it eventually opened.

2) How do I stop this thing from happening in the future? Would these be virus's?

Is it a downloader in the background? It's a security issue, obviously. Just gotta find what one it is.

when u try to install antivirus software on a infect computer, its like trying to stop godzilla with your men not even prepared. he's already in tokyo and you cant stop him

FORMAT PC
DOWLOAD ANTI-VIRUS
INSTALL EVERYTHING AGAIN
STOP LIMEWIRE
STOP PORNO

Try loading the PC in Safe Mode. This prevents extraneous viruses + applications preventing use of an antivirus. As for which antivirus to use, Kaspersky is the best in the world. The free trial version should suffice for removing all the nasties, as it is limited by time of usage not functionality.

To load your pc in safe mode, as it is booting up keep taping F8.

If you cbf doing any of this then yes, follow droodles advice. (Don't forget to back up anything of importance)

Not necessarily, but *generally* speaking yet. You're up shit creek even in safe mode if the virus has hooked onto an important Windows file or you've a rootkit.

Generally speaking, formatting is better.

costa, from your description i dont think you would have the expertise to reinstall windows after format either.

whatever you did, its definitely a freakin virus, so here are what i think your viable choices can be:

1. buy a new computer (I recommend this, as it seems that your computer is quite old, with USB 1.0/1.1)
also that you should get vista with the new computer, its a lot more friendly for not-so-IT-savvy people
also download avast! or AVG and some firewall (like Commodo or ZoneAlarm) to protect your computer from now on

2. see a technician, pay about $100~150 to get it all fixed. (or find whoever u bought it from, but your warranty would no doubt be out)

it is viable to make backups, but when you put it on your restored/new computer, make sure you scan it first before you transfer ANYTHING. reinfection can be a major pain.

never pay a retard technician that charges $90/hr for something you could've done easily for free and simply required about 2-3 hours of your time.
