More Men or Women in the World?

I got bored, so here is a question to ponder... Are there more females or males in the world today? I have heard that in ancient times, males dominated, but nowadays, I am not really sure about X and Y chromosomes in the human body?

Lol, I am confusing myself even more on this issue...  :-[

More being born, or more living overall?

Overall females have longer life span for some reason, so there is more of those cos they live longer

Oh, I didn't specify. :P I was referring to the birth rate of different children. Apparently more girls are born into the world than boys? I wish I had some evidence... :(

I remember in year 10 my biol teacher said XY sperm swim faster than XX sperm so more (barely) boys are born. But because men are much more 'risk taking' than women and general more violent (due to alpha male syndrome), more of them die so in total you will get more women in the world than men. (This was in year 10 so my memory might be a bit wrong lol)

More houses = more kitchens = more women required.
Therefore there are more women.

There is no such thing as XX or XY sperm, it's either an X sperm or an Y sperm which will fertilise an X egg, if the X sperm fertilises the egg you get an XX fetus, a girl, if a Y sperm fertilises the egg you get an XY fetus, a boy!
As for the speed, aparently Y swims faster (since the Y chromosomes are much smaller) , but X sperms apparently live longer.

Hrmm, maybe that is why girls live longer, they don't have Y chromosomes :P

http://www.geohive.com/earth/pop_gender.aspx

Have a look at that.
Dunno how accurate it is though.

An estimate from 2007 says there's 102 males to every 100 females in the world.
Also says that in Australia there's 99 males to every 100 females.

mmm wouldn't want to live in United Arab Emirates (210:100) or Qatar (203:100)... only half the guys find partners =| (unless... you are a female on a man-hunt)

but Latvia and Estonia (both 85:100) will be quite fun =P
