what are the advantages in doing further?
Advantage:
The subject is relatively easy.
The actual content isn't hard what-so-ever- some say year 10 math (except for the matrix section).
Not an extra burden on your, already tough, year 12 schedual.
There's not really many advantages in VCE subjects, especially further, other than it's a quite do-able subject. Cant think of anymore...sorry
Disadvantage (while im at it): Given its quite do-able nature, the one disadvantage that comes to mind is its competitive nature. I think it was the second most popular subject in VCE Units 3 and 4, and hence, to score well, you must have an almost perfect score in both exams. The logic here is: Everybody finds further easy, but not everybody gets 45+. The question must be asked, will you be able to hold enthusiasm for a subject that throws very little challanges at you during the year, and would you be able to hold your nerve and make MINIMAL mistakes on VCAA's rather absurd exams? If yes, then go for it. But just because the subject's content is easy, doesn't mean it's easier to score well in it.
On A Side Note:
It is imperative for students understand, that picking up Further because of its ‘easiness’ will not help your ENTER in anyway. As you might already know, Further is a subject that scales down, and has its Mean Study Score at roughly 27. This means that, although it may be ‘easy’ to achieve 35 in Further, the scaling of the subject ensures that it will scale down to ~32 or 33. This 32 can be achieved through many other subjects, and can even be achieved from a 25 in Methods (CAS). So in the end, a 35 in Further, is relative to a 25 in Methods (CAS). Hence, if selecting Further Maths because its assumed ‘easiness’ then I would seriously hope you reconsider.
One last thing, further scales DOWN, so yeah- think wisely if you're going to pick up the subject for its 'supposed' easiness.
