KB = kilobyte.
1 KB = 8 kb

1280/8 = 160KB/s expected dl speed.

Using what most ISPs decree as a 'Kilobyte' :P (aka, 'just testing you!')

1024 is technically correct though. That said, in this calculation, the difference is irrelevant (4KB/s) for the purposes of showing Khalid that his speed is the expected speed. I will adjust the calculation though.

1500 sounds better than 187.5 without sounding too ridiculous (e.g., 1500000b/s)

(there are also historical reasons for it, people have never quite let go of the 'baud rate').
