Heh, I custom-built my own machine that nearly cost me $5000.

It was an uber-machine when I built it :P

specs?

Going off the top of my head (model numbers may not be exact :P)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
(with Themalright Ultra-120 heatsink and Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste)
5x Scythe S-FLEX 120mm fan @ 1600rpm
ASUS P5K3 Deluxe WiFi-AP
4x1GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400C4 (4-4-4-12) RAM
2x500GB WD500AAKS HDD (previously RAID0'd)
ASUS EN8800GTX graphics
Leadtek Digital TV tuner (can't remember model number)
Logitech G15 keyboard
Logitech G5 mouse
Dell 24" Ultrasharp LCD monitor (8-bit S-PVA panel)
Beyerdynamic DT234Pro headset
Coolermaster 830 Stacker case

I will be upgrading certain components when I have time/money...a year out of date is too long for me :P

sifn't liquid cooling

It's an air-cooled case.

A decent (not one of those pre-built kits) liquid cooling setup can cost over $500. The fact that I'm not considering particularly heavy overclocks and do not have too much of an issue of running 7 (suprisingly quiet) 120mm fans on my rig meant that I could not justify a liquid cooling purchase.

Cost/benefit, lol.

Got that q6600 overclocked I presume?
Drop in a 4870 or x2 and you have a rocking system there, should be good for games for the next year/two or so :)

Yeah, Q6600s aren't known for the good overclocks. Too many cores = too much heat. Also, that's $300 of processor. That being said, I'm running (what I'd call) a safe overclock from 2.4GHz to 3GHz. I have pushed it to 3.4GHz stable, though.

If I had a cheapy E6xxx, I'd overclock the living daylights out of it. The Ultra-120 is a heatsink that has overclock written all over it anyway.

That's the plan :P

I'll probably replace the mobo too - it's been giving me a lot of grief.
