Alright, starting Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When They Cry season 1), however just some questions.

How bad is the gore? Would someone who isn't phased by Baccano, Elfen Lied and other gorey films/series (ie. Dead Set, Kill Bill) be fine watching this?

Also, how often and how graphic is the torture? I'm usually great with gore in fights, but I always get squeamish with torture.

I'd rate the gore below Elfen Lied level, so you should be fine. It's not really that graphical, but the sounds and the voices do amplify the horror. As for the torture scenes; I admit that they did make me cringe (fingernails being ripped out, anyone?), but again, not really graphical.

EDIT: Aha, did you enjoy Baccano? Rail Tracer is such a damn awesome character.

Thanks, it should be good (gore is fun :P)

Yeah Baccano was very good, once I got my head around the immense cast it was great. Love Miria and Isaac.

Also, did anyone watch Durarara ep 1? Seems really interesting (same writer as Baccano!) and amazing voice cast including:
Miyano, Mamoru - Light (Death Note), Tamaki (OHSHC) etc
Fukuyama, Jun - Lelouch (Code Geass)
Konishi, Katsuyuki - Kamina (TTGL)
Kamiya, Hiroshi - Tieria (Mobile Suit Gundam 00)
Nakamura, Yuuichi - Tomoya (Clannad)
Ono, Daisuke - Koizumi (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)

Sorry, another question regarding Higurashi, which fansub would you recommend? I've heard Ayu is decent, but I would prefer higher HQ video (I've heard they are only 700x400 res), have u seen Exiled Destiny subs?

I watched Higurashi with Ayu for the first season and Hauu~ for the second. I've watched Exiled Destiny subs for other series, and although the video quality is better, the subs are sub-par and the font's quite ugly.
