Adobe reader can't make PDF files, only read them. To create PDF files you'll need the full version of Acrobat (expensive) or a free program such as http://www.primopdf.com/ or http://www.cutepdf.com/. I just randomly found those on google, I can't vouch for them

Easiest way is just make something in Microsoft Word and then save it as a PDF file by choosing save as and then selecting the PDF format. However, you'll need to download this add on from Microsoft to have that format available.

Note: That add-on is for Office 2007. If you have another version, have a look around the Microsoft site for a similar add on for your version of Office.

http://www.pdf995.com/ works for me!

It acts like a printer - you "print" out your file into PDF format. This way, you aren't limited to Word, as shinny has stated. :)

CUPS just lets your print to a file (pdf or postscript). Otherwise, I use OpenOffice.org or Google Docs for my writing, and both allow me to save to PDF directly.

I use cute pdf. It's another program where you 'print' the document you want to turn into a pdf to a file. It works really well. The notes I submitted to VN are pdfs and were made this way.

They all generally act as 'virtual' printers, the PDF processors designed for Word.
