Connex Concession Fine

hey all,

so my friend just got done for travelling on a concession card which had expired 2 days before.....trying to help him get out of the fine as he's a first time 'offender'-reason being is because it was a honest mistake...and i hate connex (don't we all?)

so has anyone had any luck in getting out of a fine??? what would one normally right in a appeal??

have come up with so far-

-honest ticket buyer, I travel on public transport everyday to get to uni and I buy a ticket everyday of the week
-How is it fair that a 'valid' concession card holder is fined like any other fare evader??

thanks for the helppp.

I think it's stated in the Terms and Conditions that once it has expired, you are no longer entitled to concession fares.

No concession, travelling on concession, thats a breach of rules.

Im not sure if you can appeal but its worth a try.

Unlucky how you are checked only when concession expires :(

Yes I understand that. It was an honest mistake....he doesn't really check the expiry date of his concession card everytime he gets onto a train. You can definitely appeal.

Haha...I think they would have heard that one before....I got mine sent by UoM in the mail about 3 weeks before mine expired. I guess I'd be more looking at arguing on compassionate grounds (naive, honest mistake etc) rather than trying to come up with excuses and trying to bend the rules....Suggestions???

I got fined once for being in Zone 1 with a Zone 2 ticket. I wrote a letter to the Dept of Infrastructure's appeal's department telling them that it was an honest mistake (which it was). My fine got waived and it became a mere "caution". Although I did find and include some slightly relevant legal precedents in my letter, maybe that's what swayed them.
