No, it would never work. I think most of Jerusalem should remain as part of the Jewish state whilst East Jerusalem should make up part of the Palestinian state when it hopefully is created.

Why can't it? Jerusalem is historically Jewish, but is also a holy city for Christians and Muslims, and the aforementioned Jews. It belongs to all three creeds equally. Besides, Jerusalem is already split into four quarters, each quarter belonging to Christians, Muslims, Armenians and Jews. I think its safe to say peaceful religious coexistence is, therefore, entirely possible.

Jerusalem is not  split. Although their are four different quarters in the old city, the whole city technically  belongs to Israel (as it currently stands). There is some confusion over the Arabs in East Jerusalem as to whether they are Palestinians or Israeli Arabs.  Jerusalem will not be an international city because Israel would never allow it in fear of the safety of its citizens.

i think this is extremely unlikely to occur

At this point a Palestinian state at all looks unlikely. Especially because Likud will probably win power in tomorrow's elections.  However, I think it's possible seeing as many Israeli Arabs/Palestinians (not sure their actual status) live in East Jerusalem.
