Just as a bit of an out-of-the-box question, brendan, what do you think of the compensation package being delivered by the government (and how it is aligned to your libertarian views)? Is it too much? Not enough?

(we can split this strand of the thread if it becomes necessary)

compensation for what? if its funded through taxpayer money, then no.

if people want to voluntarily donate funds, which seems to be happening, then that's their business and completely fine.

Sad to hear. The world needs every single tree to overcome or at least help with pollution problems.

However, we should be thankful that worse didn't happen..

EDIT: Just stepped outside- the ashes of the fire is visible here, ashes flying everywhere. (wind an influence :|)

yes, the number of dead and homeless is very saddening. as is the number of dead animals and their habitat destruction, but gfb does have a point. it can be a hell of a lot worse with global warming and all. those trees were the ''silver bullets" required to fight against global warming. if we keep polluting the atmosphere, much more animals will perish and many more habitats will be destroyed. deaths caused by skin cancer and such will greatly overpass the number of current fatalities and there wont be much we can do about it. having said that, i can also understand were you're coming from.

RIP all the bushfire victims

What about the thousands dead in Gazza?

Most dead are kids, which are our future. Doesn't really make much news in the media does it?

that issue has two sides, this issue does not. The death in Gaza is regrettable, but the nature of that conflict is quite different.

refrain any more cannibalizing of this thread, that is a warning.

PS, he has not claimed you were his slave, I suggest you think twice before making any assumptions.

Do the bush fires contribute to the orange tinge of sunlight or is it just me? Since yesterday afternoon I've noticed everything directly lit by sunlight seems a bit orangy.
