From 2008, 50 percent of places available to Australian students in the Melbourne JD will be Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs).  Of these, a minimum of 20 percent will be awarded on access and equity grounds.  The remaining CSPs will be awarded on the basis of published selection criteria.
So I think from this it is saying that
10% of all places will be CSP places for Access and equity applicants
40% of all places will be CSP places (not including access and equity applicants)
50% of all places will full fee (around $86k for the degree)

Is the JD&BCOMM at UoM better than the bachelors of law/comm at Monash?

better meaning that the big4 will be more likely to hire you because of a certain university degree?

JD and BCom definitely look better. Plus you get to do vacation work earlier because of your penultimate yr happens in your 2nd yr of uni, rather than 4th in the case of Monash.

I'd probably say that a JD looks better BUT if you're guarenteed a place in Com/Law @ Monash for example, I would accept that because in that instance youd be guarenteed a law/com place as opposed to

doing Com and having a good chance of not getting a place and even if you do get a place, there is a 50% chance youll have to pay 86k for your JD

Yesh, it's called the JD. You don't need to do any law subjects prior, but there's some kind of test involved (I vaguely remember a girl asking about it on course advice day).

Are you talking to me? If you are, I'm not sure what I'm going to major in. Like I've been saying to people for the past week, I'm using my first semester to find out. What do I want to get out of my degree? A job, hopefully. :)

because commerce is very generic, and i have only basic ideas of commerce. does anyone know how ppl is at uom doing comm?
Are you asking how the people are? Well, there's around 1500 of us, so there's quite a mix.

krypt:
1. This is what I was afraid I'd have to do.
2. You should see my JPN class (well, the one I was in before they changed my timetable [again! >:(]).
3. Can't you swap some of your classes with other people? They give me crummy timetables, but there are enough morning people who are willing to swap times with nite owls like me.

Apple, could you tell me more about them? I haven't joined them or anything, but my inbox has a bunch of emails from them about various info nights for various companies.

I didn't know what I liked either but just think about what sort of classes actually interest you and which ones just make you bored to tears, and think about what it is that bores\interests you.  I didn't realise how much I hated science until the end of last year, but then when I thought about it, I'd never really done much work in science or found anything too fascinating. But as I said, you have plenty of time so I wouldn't stress too much.
