but my mate seemed very rational when he was on weed? he even drove to work and went to work as usual.
Weed has other effects and like other illegal drugs should not be taken before hitting the road. As far as I know, it impairs motor skills and reflexes (i.e. takes longer to respond to situations, increasing risk of crash)

Also, there is a risk of schizophrenia, particularly in those who choose to take up smoking cannabis at an early age.

Weed's really not that bad. Don't be brainwashed into thinking otherwise...

I make this statement relative to other legalised drugs available.

Did you bother to read the bold bit of mine?

Alcohol and cigarretes kill a lot more people annually than weed.

Hey, you called me "brainwashed" despite citing research from a VERY respected medical journal. In any case, the life expectancy for many schizophrenics is quite short relative to the general population, much like alcohol.

I think the whole idea that you called it "not really that bad"...

...relative to other illegal drugs was a bit of an irrelevant remark to make, and I'm not sure what you're really trying to get at :/

The point is that in my opinion, all drugs are bad (including alcohol). People try to make weed out to be much worse than alcohol and cigarretes even though in reality it's not.

That's why I added that extra bit in there.

So in my opinion its not really that bad relative to other legalised drugs available.

In regards to that last sentence... I think a lot of people underestimate the potential effects of cannabis as well as the consequences of acquiring schizophrenia (which the research I cited before has "taken into account childhood psychotic symptoms ante-dating cannabis use." (Arseneault et. al., 2002)).

but weed doesn't make you schizo straight away. It's like anything really, a recent study showed that mouth wash containing alcohol may cause cancer if used excessively, excessive exposure to the sun may cause skin cancer, drinking alcohol will do destroy your liver if taken excessively etc.

It really doesn't matter what the danger of using marijuana is in relation to other drugs.  The fact is it's dangerous and can cause serious long term harm.  To legalise it would simply add a more accessible danger for individuals. I can't see the benefit.

In relation to the case I don't think we know the specifics and why the boy was refused bail. Therefore, I think people should stop making accusations and assumptions about the in-justice (or lack their of) taking place.

but look at that, a legal drug can also cause mental illness like cannabis. You are exclusively talking about cannabis and nothing else. Of course if you researched anything, you'll find that there are negatives associated with it, it's just weed has been portrayed to be such a dangerous substance when really, comparing to many other things we use day to day, it isn't much different.

so can your mouth wash and your sexy tan a long with the make up that you may be wearing according to http://www.safe2use.com/health/cosmetics.htm.

but we do, because clearly http://www.smh.com.au/national/principal-finds-94-ecstasy-tablets-in-16yearolds-bag-20090313-8wp4.html contains some of the comments made by the magistrate to why he was refused bail.. so i don't see what you're talking about.

So what? We should look at legalising a dangerous drug simply because their are other products on the market that may also be dangerous.  I don't agree.
