Lol. What would major in Odette?

Haha Nah Mel Com is a very interesting course imo and can leas to many career paths. You don't have to choose your major first year do you? So you would find out what interests you through the compulsory subs?

Did you check out the subjects on the link I provided above?

of course it can't all be management cos there are some compulsory subjects and those breadth subjects you have to do as well.

You don't have to choose your major first year do you?

i would say that you effectively have to. by the beginning of first year you should know what you want to specialize in because things like acturial studies, you need to do certain first year subjects that you cannot skip. To become a CA or CPA you need to do certain first year subjects. Majors require you to do certain 3rd year subjects, and those 3rd year subjects have 2nd year prepreqs and those 2nd year prereqs have 1st year prereqs, and thus you have to have a good idea of what you want from your commerce degree at the beginning.

Furthermore a word of warning is that if you plan to specialize in Actuarial Studies you need at least a 37 or 38 (can't remember which one) in Specialist Mathematics. Also, if you plan to specialize Economics or Finance, quantitative skills are really important. I would recommend taking all the math subjects that you can handle if you do Economics or Finance.

Japanese for me, costargh. My bestie's done it all through high skool as part of her IB, so she's pretty good. I know having some1 to practice with like that would spur me on, otherwise I'd do Chinese as (to me) it seems to be a more 'useful' language than Jap. However, I'm not sure if I'll have to do a dip of modern languages alongside my commerce degree, as me wanting to major in accounting = some compulsory law breadth subjects (if I should want to seek CPA endorsement), which may not leave enough space left for a language. I read something about the possibility of doing the last 50 points of a dip in mod lang HECS free, but I have no idea how any of it works...

yup psychology has some interesting applications in Marketing and Economics. The economics department even have a subject on Behavioral Economics - the intersection of market economics and psychology.

Yeh seems like people are interested in studying lagnauges as breadth subjects. =)
Makes me feel better lol. I wish they offered Greek at Melb thou, not having to travel to LaTrobe. (if I was to get in lol)
