And how many people usually sit the UMAT?

A LOT.
I reckon about 10,000 or more applicants. In Victoria alone.

Btw, how much would the medentry thing be with the discount?
25% discount.

extra UMAT advice that i pulled from somewhere

Dear Applicant

I am sorry to inform you that unfortunately you have not been selected for
the first round of interviews being conducted from 24 to 28 September 2007.

This first round of interviews is based on combined predicted academic
result and actual UMAT result.

Applicants who were not selected for September interviews will be
considered for a second round of interviews to be held on January 2 and 3,
2008. Successful candidates for this interview will receive an invitation
email around mid December 2007. The selection for second round of
interviews will be based on combined actual academic result and UMAT
results. Approximately 100 applicants will be offered an interview in
early January in accordance with a ranked list.

Please note that applicants who are selected for a January interview are
not disadvantaged in any way. Offers for Medicine places are made through
the UAC after all interviews have been completed (a total of around 500
interviews over the September and January interview periods). Applicants
are selected into the program on the basis of their academic results, UMAT
result and interview performance. These three criteria are weighted
equally.

Applicants who were selected for an interview in September achieved a
combined actual UMAT and a predicted (or actual) UAI to rank them in the
first 370 applicants (the number who were offered an interview.)
Information on the minimum predicted UAI and actual UMAT scores that
applicants needed to achieve to be offered an interview in the main round
of interviews in September will be available next week from the link below:

http://notes.med.unsw.edu.au/home/me...testnews_local

I appreciate that this is a very anxious time for many applicants -
however, I am unable to give applicants any more feedback at this stage
until after UMAT results have been released to applicants.

Please note that applicants with a total UMAT score of less than 150 (raw
marks not percentile rankings) will be most unlikely to be ranked high
enough to be offered an interview in January.

Applicants sitting the International Baccalaureate (IB) examination who
receive their results in early January will be contacted separately
regarding the arrangements for the notification of their IB results.

If you have any further questions regarding your application, please send
me an email and I will try and respond to you as soon as I possibly can. I
wish you all the best with your final examinations this year.

Kind Regards,

Joanna Tjojoatmodjo

But now only VCE students sit the UMAT in year 12 ONLY

Other students sit the GAMSAT?

GAMSAT is only for people who have completed a undergraduate degree.
So right now, I could technically take the UMAT if I wanted to

LOL you already wrote that in your first post. I was asking for the price.
Would this group discount be the $495 Platinium package that is featured on the website?

Shinny,

Does your school give UMAT a predicted ENTER score??
I always thought that school has no say into it.

because the above statement saids:

"This first round of interviews is based on combined predicted academic
result and actual UMAT result."

The school doesn't give the UMAT anything. Rather, they give predicted scores to med uni's that require it in the applicatio process.

Yeh your school has to give a predicted ENTER to UNSW. They're the only uni which wants it from what I know though.

wouldn't that be pointless because the Med Uni's select by actual ENTER, I don't see why they need a predicted ENTER? Also, the notification of successful preference (1st preference) is after the ENTER release date and UMAT release date.

Q.0. The date for interview offers in most cases is well before ENTERs are released.
Q.1. Yeh Monash bases interviews purely on UMAT.
Q.2. Welllllllllll it's legit despite it looking like some sort of result of keyboard mashing. It's been on all my UNSW papers so far.

Monash has a pre-req for chemistry, and so do many other med schools (uni Qld, UniTas come to mind)

So, short answer, YES.

However, there are some med schools, i think it was Uni Newcastle that didnt require it (also i think JCU). But you're better off doing chem at vce- so you can keep monash ect..and option

Just for the sake of it: Quote from monash:
Quote
Major studies: Medicine, Surgery.

Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 35 in English (ESL) or 30 in any other English, and a study score of at least 30 in chemistry.
