Speaking of Tommy, why not bring in The Brilliant Green! She used to do vocals for them before they broke up. TBG was even able to grab an award in Time Magazine for 'The Top Ten Bands' in 2001, and used to be pretty famous in Japan. Personally used to hate them but I slowly grew to like some of their music (e.g. Kuroi Tsubasa and Tsumetai Hana). Probably not in most of your tastes though given responses so far...
