is this the new windows live messenger? could be caused to not properly installed the Windows Live Communication Platform

wat i did for mine (using a netgear as well) was do wat microsoft tells its customers to do (like thoroughly remove everything) then i downloaded a re-packaged version instead of that installer from the official site.
