Sleeping on questions usually helps a lot too, as well as going for a walk. I find it surprising how easily ideas can come to you when you're not actually sitting at a desk.

Basically, my top 4 scoring subjects were the ones which I didn't have a tutor for, and I'd say they're not necessary for most. I would however recommend one for English since it's a bit hard to critique your own work.

I never have and never will have a tutor. Nothing against people that do have them, but it's just not something that ever struck me as neccessary.

I can understand why people have tutors, but I know that for myself, a tutor will be counterproductive. I do believe that learning has to come from within, and without that, it doesn't matter how much you 'force' the knowledge in, you won't reach your full potential.

Um..when people say they didn't have tutors, does that mean they also didn't go to group tuition places? e.g. TSFX, North Shore. Most people seem to be referring to private tutors

My parents spent thousands of dollars on tutoring for my sister for her Year 11 subjects (methods, spesh, physics and chem) last year...
And now this year, they are going to do the same ...But I reckon she only needs to be tutored in Spesh and Physics. Since a lot of people are going to tutoring places and stuff for year 12, my parents has a view that if she doesn't go to tutoring, then everyone who goes to tutoring will have a bigger advantage and so my sis would be disadvantaged.

I never had a tutor nor went to a single group tuition session and I did fine. I'm more of an independent learner; I prefer to study at my own pace. Then again I never really had problems with any of my subjects which couldn't be solved by the teachers I already had at school.

yeh disadvantaged.. my parents think that too. My friends all have tutors for subjects especially maths;4 hours on maths per week and then english tutoring. Personally, i think that people that didn't have tutors were disadvantage... well not really just less support. Those students that had tutors did extra work and had heaps of support!

Yeah I go to a school with a lot of people who go to expensive group tutoring sessions and such, and everyone's like "HOW DO YOU DO SO WELL WITHOUT A TUTOR" but most people I know who have tutors or do group tutoring say they don't get much out of it anyway
